How to Add a Prayer Card to Your Christmas Cards This Year

Christmas cards are one of the few times a year we write to almost everyone we love. Tucking a small prayer card inside turns a greeting into a blessing. It costs little, it fits in any envelope, and it is often the part people keep long after the holidays.

Why add a prayer card?

  • It keeps the focus on Christ. A holy image of the Nativity or of Mary and the Child says "Merry Christmas" in the fullest sense.
  • It is a gift, not just a card. A prayer card can go on a fridge, in a Bible or on a nightstand all year.
  • It is a quiet witness. For family members who have drifted from the faith, a beautiful image and a short prayer can say more than a long letter.

Choosing the right card

Think about who will receive it:

Will it fit?

Our cards are 4×6 inches. That fits inside most standard Christmas card envelopes, including the common 5×7 size, so you can simply slip it in behind your greeting. If you send flat cards or postcards, you can also send the prayer card in its own envelope as a small gift.

What to write alongside it

A single line is enough. A few ideas:

  • "We chose this prayer for you this Christmas. You are in our prayers."
  • "May the peace of the Christ Child fill your home this year."
  • "A little something to keep on your fridge until next Christmas."
  • "We will be praying for you at Midnight Mass."

When to order

Our cards are printed to order, and printing and delivery times can vary, especially in December when the mail is busy. To have your cards in time for your Christmas mailing, we recommend ordering by the end of November. US orders above our free shipping threshold ship free, which makes it easy to order a set for everyone on your list.
